Inter head coach could rely on the versatility of defender Federico Dimarco by using him as a wingback this season and not just on the left of a back three.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 24-year-old’s versatility would make him a wild card for the coach given his impressive displays in preseason out wide.

Dimarco has played at wingback before in his career, having mostly played at wingback when he joined Hellas Verona on loan before also being trusted in the backline by then-Gialloblu coach Ivan Juric.

At Inter last season, Inzaghi decided to mostly use the 24-year-old as a defender rather than a wingback, as the coach felt that his characteristics were best-suited to being played in the backline rather than as an attacking wingback.

However, in preseason Dimarco has been used mostly at left wingback, and his ability to add an option in the wide areas when the team is shorthanded there could make him a significant asset to his coach.
