Inter are optimistic that they will be able to agree an extension of defender Stefan de Vrij’s contract, although a sale wouldn’t be out of the question for the right offer.

This according to yesterday’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that it is looking likelier and likelier that the Nerazzurri will renew de Vrij’s deal and that this is the player’s desire, although a €20 million offer could change things.

De Vrij’s current deal, which sees the Dutchman earn €3.8 million net per season, runs out at the end of June 2023, and so the club will not lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Should the 30-year-old not be sold, the Nerazzurri will aim to agree a new contract with him on improved terms.

As far as the player’s thinking goes, he would be happy to stay at Inter and this would in fact be his preference as things stand, and so a new contract looks likely unless a big offer comes in soon.
