Inter staff see the issues with wingback Robin Gosens’s preseason preparations to be largely psychological rather than physical.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri feel that the 28-year-old needs to find confidence and consistency rather than injuries being the main thing delaying his progress.

Gosens has yet to shine in preseason, which has raised some worries given that the German is expected to take over the left flank from Ivan Perisic next season, after the Croat had been one of the Nerazzurri’s outstanding players by far last season.

So far the German hasn’t been able to show the player he was at Atalanta in an Inter shirt, with Perisic having been firmly ahead of him in the pecking order last season.

Injuries have not helped Gosens, with another minor muscle problem hampering his preseason, but the feeling among the team’s staff is that fitness should not be a major lasting issue, whereas confidence and mentality will be necessary to address.
