Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic will miss out on this evening’s friendly match against Villarreal with a minor calf problem.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the issue is nothing serious but that it will be enough to rule the 29-year-old’s participation against Villarreal out, with Kristjan Asllani starting in his place.

Brozovic felt some discomfort in his calf during the team’s most recent training session, and while there is no serious injury it is the same muscle which caused the Croat to miss out on a couple matches following the Champions League clash with Liverpool in March.

Accordingly, no risks will be taken and the midfielder will sit out this evening’s match to fully recover from the calf problem in view of the start of the long and demanding season.

Brozovic’s deputy Asllani, who was signed this summer to provide cover for the Croat and has shone so far in preseason, will start at the base of midfield against Unai Emery’s side.
