Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi would be a serious option for Inter as they look to strengthen in defense without spending much.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri have little to invest in a defender to add depth to their backline but that they will wait to see which opportunities present themselves later in the window with Acerbi a possibility.

The Nerazzurri are aiming to sign a defender before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month, but the budget for the signing is very small, and would likely have to be either a loan move or a free transfer.

The likes of Bremer and Nikola Milenkovic had been lined up as targets earlier in the window, but both of these were only intended as signings if one of the first-choice back three were to depart.

Since all of the regular starting back three has remained at the club, at least in the event that Milan Skriniar isn’t sold, the idea is to sign a lower-cost player to replace Ranocchia, and in this respect Acerbi remains a serious target.

The Nerazzurri could also wait to see what opportunities open up as far as loan or free transfers from the foreign market, whilst keeping an eye on Acerbi who head coach Simone Inzaghi would welcome.
