Galataasaray Vice-President Erden Timur has admitted that the Turkish giants are still trying to sign forward Alexis Sanchez now that the Chilean has left Inter.

Speaking to local media, as reported by FCInterNews, Timur was open about the Istanbul-based club’s interest in the 33-year-old, and stated that Turkish international and Sanchez’s former teammate at Inter Hakan Calhanoglu personally recommended a move to Turkey.

Sanchez is reportedly close to a move to Marseille now that his departure from the Nerazzurri has officially been confirmed, although the Ligue 1 side have not wrapped up a move for him just yet.

This could leave the door open for other teams with an interest in the Chilean to make a move, and according to Timur Galatasaray are still keen.

The Turkish giants have already signed Dries Mertens on a free transfer from Napoli, as well as Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira who had spent last season on loan in Serie A with Fiorentina.

“Alexis Sanchez is one of the players we’re interested in,” Timur said. “We’ll have to be patient regarding this transfer, which Hakan Calhanoglu has already personally recommended. We’ve spoken with Sanchez a couple of times.”
