Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic’s fitness is a doubt for the team’s Serie A opener against Lecce on Saturday, but coach Simone Inzaghi would be ready to trust newly-arrived Kristjan Asllani in his place.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach would be happy to rely on Asllani rather than risk Brozovic’s fitness in the clash with Lecce.

Brozovic is currently training alone as he looks to put a minor calf problem behind him, and with the match away to Lecce just four days away it will be touch-and-go as to whether he can be ready to appear in the team’s first match of the season.

The Croat likely won’t return to full training for a couple of days, and Inzaghi will make evaluate the situation and make a last minute decision.

If Brozovic isn’t considered to be ready, however, the coach will not rush the Croat back, as he believes Asllani already has all the qualities necessary to hold down the fort in the meantime.
