Former Inter, Bologna, and Salernitana Sporting Director Walter Sabatini believes that even though Inter have reunited an attacking duo capable of winning the Serie A title, defending champions AC Milan are still the favourites for it this season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Sabatini argued that the return of Romelu Lukaku to Inter is one of the best signings of the season in Serie A because it brings back a Scudetto-winner, but still argued that it’s the Rossoneri’s to lose.

Inter barely missed out on the Serie A title last season, and the sense was that while they were hardly lacking in attacking quality as the league’s strongest attack, there was nevertheless a drop-off in consistency and cutting edge in the final third which was a major factor in their failure to defend their Serie A title.

Accordingly, the return of Lukaku from the season prior will be seen as a potentially major factor  in the Scudetto race.

Asked about the best signings of the transfer window among Serie A clubs, Sabatini named “Lukaku, because Inter have rebuilt an attack that won the Scudetto.”

Regarding the title favourites, he named “Milan, because they’ve created a winning mentality. Maldini and Massarra have done very well.”
