Inter wingback Robin Gosens is a doubt to start in the team’s Serie A opener against Lecce this weekend.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that while the German will not miss the match through injury, coach Simone Inzaghi is making his decision based on his match-fitness.
Gosens has had a mixed preseason, with a solid display in the team’s final friendly against Villarreal an encouraging note to end on, but he had a significant part of his preparations disrupted by a muscle injury.
Now, the 28-year-old is fully recovered from his injury, but this does not mean that the coach will feel that it would be the right time to immediately throw him into the action.
Inzaghi is sensitive to the importance of match-fitness and form in considering when Gosens should make his return, and so he will decide closer to the match whether the German has enough minutes in his legs and is close enough to his best to play.
