Former Inter coach Rafael Benitez has said that Inter and Juventus are the two teams that will battle it out for the Serie A title this season, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spanish football coach was quick to choose the Bianconeri and the Nerazzurri as his picks for the title although he did give a mention to AC Milan who were the champions last season.

“Inter and Juve, but it would be disrespectful not to consider Milan after the Scudetto. I would then be pleased if Napoli were included in the fight at the top, assuming that the disposals do not excessively condition their performance.”

He refused to pick one team when asked who has had the best transfer market so far, saying all the top teams have focused on bringing in quality players.

“All the top teams so far have focused on quality. But it is still early, in the last few weeks there can be movements that often prove decisive.”

He did pick out most of Juventus’ transfers when asked which deals have caught his eye but he also mentioned Inter’s acquisition of Romelu Lukaku.

“Many players have arrived who are little known in the international arena but whom I consider excellent. Dybala, Pogba and Lukaku are the most striking shots, I really appreciated Juve’s other additions, Di Maria and Bremer. Watch out for Atalanta’s Lookman: he could be a pleasant surprise.”

Rafael Benitez feels that the returns of global star players like Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba to the league show that it still has an appeal.

“It is proof that Italian football still has appeal and potential to attract champions even from the Premier League, which remains the league of reference. Specifically, it is a very good signal for the whole movement.”
