The arrival of Romelu Lukaku could see Inter play more vertically this season like they did under Antonio Conte, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been suggested by a report in Corriere della Sera, the fact that the pairing of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku have been put back together this summer means that Simone Inzaghi will need to play to their strengths.

They are excellent at linking up in attack which is something that Lautaro Martinez was unable to do very effectively with Edin Dzeko last season.

That could lead Inter to put slightly less focus on the wingbacks this season, especially given Ivan Perisic is no longer at the club. The defensive five may sit slightly deeper and the attacks will come through the midfield and into the feet of either striker to then release the other.

Wing play will of course still be a factor, but goals from crosses may be less frequent.
