Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that current Nerazzurri midfielder Kristjan Asllani already has a well-developed style of play despite being just twenty years of age.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in the SportWeek insert in today’s print edition, Asllani gave his thoughts on the Albanian who he praised for having a great understanding of the game despite having relatively little experience.

Asllani will have high expectations placed on his shoulders this season considering that he arrives at Inter as the designated backup option to Marcelo Brozovic in midfield, a player who is vital to how the Nerazzurri want to play.

The Croat’s position places high demands on a player in terms of positional awareness, tactical understanding, and also athleticism and stamina.

Even midfielders of the quality of Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu struggled to fill in for Brozovic last season, and it is not a role that many younger players instantly find themselves proficient in, and yet the club have put their trust in Asllani.

“He’s often used in front of the defense, skilful and safe in the first phase of buildup, he finds the passing lanes,” Adani noted. “Precisely because of this understanding of time and space, he’s adaptable to all midfield roles.”

He went on to call Asllani “Good at set pieces, he always seems to play with the maturity of a more experienced player, he already has a great sense of invention.”
