Inter defender Federico Dimarco believes that the chemistry down the Nerazzurri’s left-hand side is only just beginning to form.

Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 win over Lecce in their opening Serie A match of the campaign, the 24-year-old gave his thoughts on the burgeoning partnership between himself and Robin Gosens on the left flank.

Last season Inter had a formidable left side, with wingback Ivan Perisic perfectly complementing the likes of Dimarco, Alessandro Bastoni, and Hakan Calhanoglu in building up play down the flank.

With the Croat gone, a new rhythm will have to be found between the left-sided defenders and his replacement Gosens, and this is still something that has to be worked on before they can have a real understanding that sees them all play at their best.

“It was perhaps the first time since last season that Robin and I played together,” Dimarco noted, “we have to get an understanding of the mechanisms between us, but this happens by working at our best during the week.”

Referring to the rough condition of the pitch at the Stadio Villa del Mare, Dimarco noted that “Certainly the pitch had an effect, it was similar to the one in Pescara, but we’re not looking for excuses.”

Speaking about the win, a narrow victory in which the Nerazzurri left it late after struggling to find rhythm and quality, the 24-year-old said that “It was a difficult game that we dominated, we created a lot of shots.”

“In the end, a very important victory arrived,” he continued. “We have to keep going with the work we’ve been doing this week, I think we are on the right track. We must keep going like this.”

And regarding what he considers to be his best position, the versatile Dimarco said that “It doesn’t matter to me whether I’m play in the back three or at wingback, the important thing is that the team wins and that everyone fights for our goals.”
