Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi believes that Inter are no longer considering the signing of Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi to be off the table.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, via FCInter1908, Barzaghi explained that the Nerazzurri are no longer completely denying that they are interested in signing the 34-year-old as they had been, even though there are still other targets who are the priority.

Acerbi has long been linked as a possible target for the Nerazzurri in defense, with the former Sassuolo defender a player who would add experience and proven top-flight quality and has also proven that he knows the system of coach Simone Inzaghi.

Despite the lukewarm transfer rumours, the Nerazzurri have never really stepped up their interest, and reports have also tended to suggest that they haven’t considered him a major target even as it’s become clear that Acerbi will be available this summer.

Barzaghi explained that Inter’s stance has shifted a bit, stating that “Rumors have spread about Acerbi, who unlike a while ago I haven’t had categorically denied.”

He continued that “Perhaps this is due to the pressing requests of Inzaghi, who is a big fan and would put his complete trust in him.”

“If there are assurances from his agent that they’d only have to pay his wages, this could be a last-minute opportunity,” Barzaghi noted. “In any case, Inter are waiting and looking for better option, but no longer exclude him.”
