Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that, with the season now arrived, Inter and AC Milan are the two teams best-positioned to compete for the Serie A title.

Speaking to Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino in an interview published in today’s print edition, Bergomi named the city rivals as the two favourites, whilst he also noted that the list of teams vying for a spot in the top four has gotten more crowded with the improvements Roma have made.

Inter and Milan both kick off their Serie A campaigns today, and immediately the pressure will be on both of them to keep and set the pace at the top end of the table.

Alongside the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri, last season’s top four finishes Napoli and Juventus will also be the subject of major expectations, whilst the Giallorossi will arguably have more expected of them than rivals like Fiorentina, Lazio, and Atalanta due to the eye-catching transfer window they’ve had.

Bergomi argued that “Milan and Inter are one step ahead of everyone else, in the front row, at the moment they’re the two favourites for the Scudetto.”

“I’d put Napoil, Juve, and Roma on the same level,” he continued, “the race for Champions League qualification will be increased by one team, the Giallorossi must be included along with the teams that qualified last season.”

“Further back tare Sarri’s Lazio,” he predicted, “who will continue to have some impressive exploits but could struggle for consistency.”
