Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu did not have as much of an influence on proceedings as was expected of him in yesterday evening’s Serie A opener against Lecce in the view of Italian media.

The 28-year-old received the lowest scores of any Inter player in the player ratings across Italian media, as highlighted by L’Interista, where his display was identified as a culprit behind the Nerazzurri’s inability to really control proceedings.

Calhanoglu had started out reasonably well as Inter looked to impose their possession game on newly-promoted Lecce, but as the match wore on and the Nerazzurri increasingly out of their rhythm, the Turkish international looked more and more anonymous.

Calhanoglu was taken off early in the second half as coach Simone Inzaghi looked to switch things up once it became clear that things weren’t working.

All of the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Corriere dello Sport, Tuttosport, and L’Interista gave Calhanoglu just a 5/10 score, whilst TuttoMercatoWeb were marginally more positive with a grade of 5.5/10.
