Inter fans will have had a sense of deja vu with how Romelu Lukaku announced his return by scoring against Lecce, the same team he had gotten a debut goal against during his first spell as a Nerazzurri player.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who note the symmetry and parallels with the Belgian’s two Inter debuts three seasons apart and suggest that a real continuity has already been established.

Lukaku took less than two minutes to get off and running now that he’s back at Inter, and while the Belgian was not yet at the level that he showed during his best periods across his previous time at the Nerazzurri he showed his goalscoring prowess right away.

The expectation will be on the 29-year-old to continue to prove himself over the rest of the season, but for the time being at least the sense will be that it’s like he never left.
