The shirt pull on Inter striker Edin Dzeko by Lecce defender Alexis Blin in yesterday evening’s Serie A clash was not enough to warrant a penalty being awarded in the view of Italian media.

The assessment of the situation in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport was that while there was a clear shirt pull, it was not an obvious foul and that it would have been harsh on the defender for the VAR to intervene.

Dzeko appealed for a penalty after going down inside the box as he felt Blin tugging at his shirt, and the Bosnian appeared furious that his appeals were dismissed.

The VAR will have looked at the incident and concurred with on-pitch referee Alessandro Prontera that while there was a shirt pull it was not a foul.

For the Gazzetta, this was the right decision, as any error by Prontera will not have been clear and obvious enough for the penalty to be given.
