Italian journalist Andrea Di Caro believes that AC Milan have started off the season looking close to the best version of themselves whereas Inter are still far from reaching their full capacity.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Di Caro contrasts the starts that each of the two Milan rivals have made to the Serie A season now that their respective campaigns are underway.

Milan and Inter will both feel the pressure to fight for the Serie A title this season, the Rossoneri because they come in as defending champions and the Nerazzurri because they narrowly missed out last season after they had at one point looked firm favourites.

There are still 37 matches to go and both teams have secured three points in their first outings, but just as important as the results at this stage of the season are the nature of the performances, and in this respect some differences could be observed.

“Milan start again by winning,” Di Caro writes. “However, they do so in a very different way. The champions Milan enjoyed their football, scored, made a few errors but largely convinced, picking up exactly where he left off last season, perhaps even giving a more positive impression.”

“Inter on the other hand have regained their totem and leader, Lukaku, but they struggled to find their rhythm, didn’t create enough, got caught out, and could only take home the three points in the final seconds, mocking the good performance of Lecce in the 94th minute.”
