Italian journalist Michele Criscitiello believes that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is still affected by the awareness that a big sale could happen as long as the transfer window remains open.

Writing in his column for Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Criscitiello analyzed the Nerazzurri’s Serie A opener against Lecce from over the weekend, and also wrote about the impact that the transfer market is having on the Nerazzurri.

Inter’s season is now well underway and will only get more intense in the coming weeks, but this doesn’t mean that they are out of the woods as far as the transfer market is concerned.

The early start to the season means that the window is open for close to a month whilst the season is already started, and so the first few matches and the preparations for them will have to be juggled with considerations of the market, which for Inzaghi means the looming possibility of losing a key player.

“Inter won in Lecce by playing five forwards against zero specialist defenders,” Criscitiello writes. “Baroni had no central defenders to deploy and Inzaghi no longer knew where to put his forwards.”

“If he had still had Pinamonti on the bench he would have threw him on as well,” he cotninues.

Criscitiello notes that “Inzaghi talks about the transfer market and repeats loudly, before and after the match, that the outgoing transfer window is done.”

The coach does this “To convince himself but also to put owners and the club in a difficult spot. The coach is aware that with the transfer window open until September 1 a nasty surprise could still be on the way.”

“In Lecce we saw an Inter who still look to be their preseason version,” he suggests. “They need to change gears if they want to try to bring the Scudetto back to Pinetina. This year the competition is fierce.”
