Chelsea could still make a late push to sign wingback Denzel Dumfries from Inter during the last couple weeks of the summer transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, who report that the Blues’ interest in signing the 26-year-old hasn’t gone away and that should they make a significant new offer the final decision will belong to Nerazzurri President Steven Zhang.

Chelsea have identified Dumfries among their list of targets as they’ve made significant alterations to their squad this summer, although they had their initial offer rebuffed by Inter, who would seek a very significant fee to consider negotiating a sale of the Dutchman.

For now, the Blues’ chase of Dumfries has lost a bit of momentum, but given that their interest in signing him remains a new offer cannot be ruled out even very late in the window.

Should Chelsea try to test Inter’s resolve with a new offer, it will be Zhang who is the key figure in deciding whether or not to accept.
