Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji’s priority is to move to Inter this summer, although the Nerazzurri will need the green light from President Steven Zhang to invest in signing him.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are waiting for the go-ahead from Zhang to try and get a deal wrapped up for the 26-year-old with Dortmund.

Akanji has decisively rejected the possibility of extending his contract with the Schwarzgelben past the end of June 2023, although he would consider extending his deal by a season if it were to facilitate a loan to Inter.

The Nerazzurri are keen although Dortmund’s current valuation of €20 million for the Swiss international is a stumbling block, whilst the Bundesliga club would be willing to consider an initial loan but only if it contained a purchase obligation.

Inter President Zhang could be the one to unlock the negotiations, but so far the Nerazzurr continue to wait for his approval.
