Various Inter directors had lunch with Simone Inzaghi at Appiano Gentile today where the need for a new defender was discussed, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

As has been reported by Sky Sport in Italy, via FCInternews, there was an informal meeting between the head coach and Inter CEO Beppe Marotta, sporting director Piero Ausilio, and his deputy Dario Baccin.

It is not an unusual occurrence for them to dine with the coach because it is the best way to get feedback about players in the squad and the atmosphere in the team.

It is believed that the transfer market must have been one of the main topics of discussion for the men and that means they will have been discussing the need for a new defender to replace the depth that Andrea Ranocchia offered last season.

The two main candidates now are Manuel Akanji and Francesco Acerbi.
