Legendary former Inter, Lazio, and Atletico Madrid striker Christian Vieri backs Romelu Lukaku to have the same kind of impact in his second spell at Inter as he did during his first.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in this week’s SportWeek insert, Vieri spoke highly of the Belgian’s qualities and his ability to form a strong attacking duo with Lautaro Martinez.

Lukaku is off the mark in Serie A already after scoring his first competitive goal back with Inter within a couple minutes of last weekend’s Serie A win over Lecce.

The 29-year-old had been very prolific across his two previous seasons with the Nerazzurri, although his reputation did take some damage after his solitary season in the Premier League with Chelsea did not live up to expectations or to the hefty price tag that the Blues had paid for him.

Vieri still backs Lukaku to be a big hit in Serie A, though, stating that “Lukaku is physically a beast, in Italy he shifts the balance.”

“As big as he is, he must always train to the highest level,” he added. “He needs to be polished to unleash his power to the maximum. He and Lautaro Martinez form a perfect attacking partnership.”
