Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is pleased that it now seems to be confirmed that Milan Skriniar will stay for the season rather than being sold.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia ahead of this evening’s Serie A home opener against Spezia, the coach expressed his happiness that Skriniar is set for a stay, whilst he also made clear that he backs Federico Dimarco to thrive in a starting tole after including him in the eleven this evening.

Skriniar has been strongly linked with Paris Saint-Germain for much of the summer transfer window, but the Parisians never quite showed the willingness to meet Inter’s asking price whilst the Nerazzurri’s plans changed and so they are now ready to keep hold of the Slovakian.

Of the 27-year-old remaining this season, Inzaghi said that “It’s nice. For us as coaches it’s not easy to have the team playing while the transfer window’s still open, we have to keep our focus on our goals, which right now is only the match against Spezia.”

Of his decision to include Dimarco in the starting eleven, Inzaghi said that “Right now Dimarco is in a very good moment of form. I had a big decision to make between him, Gosens, and Darmian, but he deserved it based on his match against Lecce and what he’s shown during the week.”

“But as we saw against Lecce, the difference can also be made by players who come on later in the match,” the coach pointed out.

And of being able to play in front of the home fans at the San Siro again, Inzaghi said that “They’ll help us a lot, no doubt. We ended at San Siro last season being embraced by our fans, and now they’re back.”

“They always show us love, and we hope that we can give them a good match,” he added.
