Inter face a potentially very tricky Champions League group stage draw given that they are in Pot Three of the draw, and they will be hoping to share a group of one of Ajax, Porto, or Eintracht Frankfurt.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri face the likely prospect of facing one of Europe’s strongest teams in the group due to their placement in Pot Three.

Inter missed out not just on the Serie A title but also on automatic placement in Pot One of the group stage draw for this season’s Champions League draw when they finished second in the table to city rivals AC Milan last season.

The Rossoneri have the benefit of being in Pot One as Italian champions, meaning that they will avoid heavy hitters like Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain in their group, although they can still face formidable sides like Liverpool and Chelsea from Pot Two.

Inter, meanwhile, could end up drawing one of City, Bayern, PSG, or Real Madrid from Pot Three in addition to getting a tough opponent from Pot Two which could be any of Liverpool, Chelsea, or teams such as Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

The one potential saving grace for the Nerazzurri would be the fact that, also in Pot One, are Portuguese champions Porto, Dutch champions Ajax, and Europa League winners Ajax.

These would all be tough fixtures in and of themselves for Inter to face as they seek to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds for the second season in a row, but on paper they would certainly be easier than facing an opponent like City or Bayern home and away.
