Referee Davide Ghersini got very little wrong in his handling of Inter’s Serie A clash with Spezia yesterday evening, and the official in fact got all the major decisions right.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the official gave a good display and highlighted the decision not to award Spezia a penalty for light contact on striker M’Bala Nzola in the Inter penalty area as a correct one.

Ghersini didn’t have too much work to do at the San Siro yesterday, and in fact the referee did not have to hand out a single caution on a night where both sets of players were totally professional and things never threatened to boil over.

All of Inter’s goals were perfectly legal, with the one hint of controversy being the possible offside position of striker Edin Dzeko when he received the ball from Roberto Gagliardini to assist Joaquin Correa for the Nerazzurri’s third, but the video confirms that the Bosnian was standing in an onside position.

Meanwhile, the Ligurians had appealed for a penalty after striker Nzola went down under some light contact by Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic inside the penalty area, but the Gazzetta suggest that Ghersini was fully correct to promptly wave it away as the contact was minimal.
