Borussia Dortmund could still open up to the idea of extending defender Manuel Akanji’s contract and sending him to Inter on loan before the transfer window closes.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri haven’t given up hope that they could yet reach an agreement with the Schwarzgelben for the 26-year-old.

Inter are still hoping to sign Akanji as their final signing of the summer transfer window, although if Dortmund continue to hold out for a €15 million for the Swiss international then doing so would be financially beyond the Nerazzurri.

However, the Nerazzurri’s strategy has been to hope that Akanji, whose current contract with Dortmund expires at the end of June 2023, could sign an extension and then join on loan for this season.

Up to this point the Bundesliga side have been resistant to this idea and have continued to hold out for a permanent sale for a decent-sized fee, but Inter are still waiting to see if their stance could change in the coming days before the window slams shut.
