Former Juventus, Wolfsburg, and Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli believes that Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi would be a signing who could fit right in immediately at Inter should he sign.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, Barzagli gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s reported targeting of Acerbi, and noted that the 34-year-old can quickly fit into coach Simone Inzaghi’s plans and that his qualities in Serie A are well-established.

Acerbi has been heavily linked as Inter’s final signing of the summer transfer window, with the Biancocelesti defender having been identified as a low-cost arrival who could reinforce the defensive depth following the departure of Andrea Ranocchia earlier in the summer.

The 34-year-old is a different profile from some of the other players the Nerazzurri have been linked with as defensive signings before the end of transfer window, who have been younger and arguably have higher upside, but Barzagli believes that the experience and reliability of someone like Acerbi aren’t to be underestimated.

“He’d be a good signing,” Barzagli said of the Lazio defender. “Simone Inzaghi knows him well, he’s reliable.”

And of the possibility of Acerbi filling in on the left as well as in the centre of a back three, he said “I think they’re well-stocked there, Federico Dimarco can play there.”
