Inter would be ready to sign Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi on loan quickly, but they are still only thinking about doing so as a last resort in the event that they miss out on their other targets in defense.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that everything is in place for a deal for Acerbi but that Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah are still the priorities.

Inter have essentially reduced their list of targets to fill out the defensive depth to Acerbi, Akanji, and Chalobah, and the latter in particular is a player they are still seriously working to sign.

The 23-year-old Englishman is seen as having suitable profile to back up Milan Skriniar on the right of the back three, whilst Skriniar or Alessandro Bastoni could deputize in the centre of the defense.

The Nerazzurri are still working to convince Chelsea on a loan deal for Chalobah, given his age and the fact that he would earn less this season than Acerbi, whose €2.6 million net per season wages would be a big increase from the €1.2 million net of Andrea Ranocchia.

Acerbi is still very much lined up as a target for the final days of the transfer window, but as things stand Inter are working on other deals ahead of his.
