Inter have agreed on a settlement with UEFA regarding possible sanctions for violations to Financial Fair Play, and could potentially face everything from fines to barring from participation in or withholding of proceeds from European competition.

This according to Italian football finance news outlet Calcio e Finanza, who detail the potential sanctions that would be on the table for all of the top clubs who face sanctions under FFP, including the Nerazzurri.

UEFA have been working with a number of Europe’s top clubs for some months, opening proceedings into their accounts from the past few seasons with a view to collecting information ahead of the changes to FFP regulations set to take place starting in 2024.

Europe’s top governing body are well aware of the financial effects of the pandemic on top clubs, and for this reason have shown greater leniency with respect to sanctions in addition to introducing changes to the regulations which will come into force in coming seasons.

However, sanctions are still on the table, with the least severe being a warning, and then the next possibility being a fine for noncompliance with the regulations.

After this, the next step would be for teams to have points deducted within European competition, followed by withholding of proceeds from participation in competitions like the Champions League and the Europa League.

Bans on registering new players, or restrictions on the number of players who could be registered in a squad to participate in a European competition are also on the table, while the most severe sanctions would be outright exclusion of clubs from these competitions, or the stripping of previously-awarded titles.
