Inter are ready to open up contract extension talks with defender Milan Skriniar, and would be prepared to offer over €6 million to put the Slovakian in line with some of the other highest earners at the club.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are well aware that after the transfer saga involving Skriniar and Paris Saint-Germain this summer they will have to make a financially significant offer.

Inter’s plan had always been to begin contract talks with Skriniar not long after the close of the summer transfer window, given that the 27-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of June 2023.

Skriniar currently earns €3.8 million net per season, and he was always set for a substantial pay increase to reflect his importance to the team, although it was not necessarily intended to bring him to wages equal to what Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozovic earn.

After Romelu Lukaku, Martinez and Brozovic are the Nerazzurri’s two highest earners following the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal, with the duo on €6.2 million net per season and €6.5 million net per season respectively.

Given that Skriniar had been offered €9 million net per season by PSG, Inter know that they will have to make the maximum financial effort in contract negotiations now, and they would be prepared to put him in line with Martinez and Brozovic.
