Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has said that facing Inter is not easy and they are among the favourites to win the Serie A title this season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by FCInternews, Maurizio Sarri spoke to journalists at his press conference on Thursday ahead of the match against the Nerazzurri which takes place on Friday evening at the Stadio Olimpico.

He admitted that Simone Inzaghi’s side are amongst the favourites to win the title this season having been so narrowly beaten to it by AC Milan last season.

“Inter are perhaps the strongest team in the league, both technically and physically. They have great absolute values, they are among the favourites to win the championship. It’s not easy to face them, playing a high level of defence depends on the whole team, not just the back line. I hope the team can confirm itself.”

Another element of Inter that he pointed out is the height that the team possesses. Inter are serious threat from corners and other set pieces and that helps when defending too.

“Inter’s height is not only a problem for us, but for all teams. They combine physicality in the box with players who can take free-kicks. A move by Inzaghi? The only one I can think of as a possible surprise is Gagliardini in Milinkovic’s area.”

Maurizio Sarri was asked if Simone Inzaghi is among the best Italian coaches that there are now and he appeared to agree, suggesting he already was before joining Inter.

“He was already there at Lazio, he had an important cycle. Now he coaches a potentially stronger team and enters a smaller number still. My task is not to cancel Inzaghi, who must be remembered with pleasure, but to get results and be loved by the Lazio people.”
