Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has said that it is better for defeats like the one against Lazio on Friday night to happen earlier in the season, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with Inter TV at the end of the 3-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico, via FCInternews, Alessandro Bastoni tried to stay as positive as possible by focusing on how it is better to lose games early in the season and learn from them.

“It’s better that these defeats come now, it already happened last year so we’ll certainly restart stronger.”

He was asked if the preparation for the game was any different to normal due to the number of games that are coming up but he stressed that there was no physical problem that led to the poor performance from the Nerazzurri.

“The problem is not physical, from the field there was a good feeling, at 1-1 we had the feeling we could win it, then it went wrong. Now we have to get off to a good start for Tuesday’s challenge.”

Inter started the better team but were 1-0 down at the break. They immediately equalised but then the game got away from them. Alessandro Bastoni feels they overstretched themselves.

“It was an open game, the feeling from the field was good, we had the game in our hands. Then we stretched ourselves and lost the distance, let’s hope that this defeat will serve us to restart at our best.”
