AC Milan are ready to try and rival Inter to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Manuel Akanji, and could try and sign him before the summer transfer window closes.

This according to German broadcaster Sky Sports Deutschland, who report that the Rossoneri have identified the 27-year-old as a target to be their last defensive signing before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Inter and Milan have both been looking to sign one more defender this summer, the former to replace Andrea Ranocchia and the latter to replace Alessio Romagnoli.

Both have been trying to sign Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah but look to be unable to do so after Chelsea have decided not to let him leave this summer, whilst the Rossoneri have lined up Schalke defender Malick Thiaw as an alternative.

The Nerazzurri have been chasing Akanji for some time, but they could face serious competition in the form of their city rivals, with Milan considering Akanji as a possible signing in the last couple days of the window if they do not sign Thiaw.
