Italian journalist Luigi Garlando believes that Inter striker Romelu Lukaku was not proactive enough in yesterday’s Serie A loss to Lazio, and was simply waiting for his team to get the ball to him in dangerous situations.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Garlando criticizes the Belgian’s performance for not giving the team enough of a hand and for appearing to be looking for the team to be the one to serve him.

Lukaku had not disappointed in the first two matches upon returning to Inter on loan from Chelsea, scoring against Lecce before notching a well-taken assist against Spezia whilst his overall displays suggested that he was ready to be a focal point in attack.

Against Lazio, on the other hand, the only thing that the 29-year-old appeared to be trying to do was to receive the ball in the final third, even long after it became clear that the team was struggling to get it to him.

“He was waiting for the ball to magically fall to his feet, front out of nowhere,” Galrando writes of the Belgian. “He rarely dropped in to collect the ball, or dictated spaces, as he usually does.”

“So he allowed himself to be easily locked up by the defenders,” he continues.
