Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi is still very likely to be Inter’s final signing of the summer transfer window despite comments by CEO Beppe Marotta suggesting that the race is still open between he and the other targets.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri will in all likelihood move for the 34-year-old soon, as Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji are likely out of reach.

Marotta made clear in his comments to the media prior to yesterday evening’s 3-1 Serie A loss to Lazio that the Nerazzurri are still considering their options and weighing up what would be feasible with respect to their final defensive signing of the summer.

However, time is running out to make a final decision on a signing to complete the depth in the backline, and according to the Gazzetta, it is Acerbi who is the favourite to be the name who is selected given that the other targets would not likely be available on a loan without a fee.
