The contact of Lazio winger Mattia Zaccagni on Inter’s Denzel Dumfries during the second half of the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 Serie A loss was not a penalty in the view of Italian media.

This from today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who analyze the incident and argue that referee Michael Fabbri was correct not to point to the spot following the incident.

Dumfries and Zaccagni had a bit of an ongoing tussle throughout yesterday’s match, with the Dutchman not receiving a yellow for a heavy challenge on his Lazio counterpart whilst Zaccagni was booked for an arm in the face of Dumfries.

Fabbri was correct on these counts in the view of the Gazzetta, whilst the newspaper also sees his decision as totally correct on the penalty incident.

There had been some contact between the pair as Dumfries went to ground after receiving a layoff from Lautaro Martinez inside the penalty area, but an offside by Romelu Lukaku in the buildup meant that there was no penalty.
