Former Napoli, Lazio, and Fiorentina midfielder Valon Behami believes that the loss of striker Romelu Lukaku to injury could allow Inter to start playing like they had been last season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the former Swiss international gave the view that while the Belgian’s absence will be felt in attack, the Nerazzurri could find a boost if they decide to revert to their style of play from last season without him.

Lukaku looks set to miss at least the next couple of matches after sustaining a thigh injury in training yesterday morning, and he could be out for even longer, with a report today suggesting that he could be out until the international break.

Coping without the Belgian will be far from easy for the Nerazzurri, considering that he has been brought in to be the focal point in attack.

However, the Nerazzurri’s attack had hardly been weak last season, and if they continue to play as they had been before Lukaku’s arrival rather than trying to adjust to the 29-year-old, they could find success in the important fixtures just around the corner.

“Inter would lose a lot,” Behrami said of the prospect of playing against AC Milan without the Belgian, “but he’s not the Lukaku that we all know just yet. Maybe this can give Inter that extra bit of energy, they can execute the style of play from last season.”
