Legendary former Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano feels that current Nerazzurri defender Alessandro Bastoni is not the level of player that his reputation suggests.

Speaking on his Instagram story, as reported by L’Interista, Cassano gave his thoughts on the 23-year-old who he suggested is still too error-prone following his performance against Lazio on Friday.

Bastoni has become very well-regarded for his performances at Inter over the past few seasons, with the former Atalanta and Parma defender’s ability in possession particularly noted.

However, there have often been lingering questions about Bastoni’s defensive credentials, and it is on this basis that Cassano is not convinced by him.

Speaking after the Nerazzurri’s loss to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, Cassano identified the 23-year-old’s defensive frailties among the issues that have led to the team dropping off defensively at the start of this season.

“Inter look to be in trouble to me, Lukaku has to wake up because he needs a month or two to get in shape due to his physique,” he said.

“And then there are some big question marks,” the former forward continued, “look at Bastoni: a very overrated player who is very error-prone. We’ll see how the season goes at any rate, I think we’ll see Inter right there in it in May.”
