Former Inter, Napoli, Roma, and Leicester City coach Claudio Ranieri expects this season’s Serie A title race to be highly dramatic and full of twists and turns.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Ranieri compared the dynamics that are starting to appear between the teams at the top end of the Serie A table to the climax of the last Formula 1 season between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Inter will feel that they are still firmly in the Scudetto race despite a painful setback in the form of a 3-1 loss to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, but they will have to look at the form of expected rivals like AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli as well as that of the Biancocelesti, Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Roma and see strong competition.

It could be the case that things remain up for grabs until the late stages of the campaign, and possibly until the final day like last season.

Ranieri stated that “It’s been a brilliant Serie A season which if you’ll recall I already predicted. Seeing six teams all level at the top, and then Inter, Juventus and Fiorentina right behind them, just adds to the adrenaline of a season that’s already promised to be exciting.”

“It will be like the final Formula 1 race between Hamilton and Verstappen last season,” he predicted, “lots of twists and turns, and then let’s see who wins in the final sprint.”
