Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is set to be absent from the Belgian national team’s squad for their Nations League fixtures during the international break.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that one saving grace of the 29-year-old’s injury layoff for Inter is that he is likely to take the international break in September to rest in view of returning fresh for his club.

Lukaku now looks likely to miss not just the next couple of matches for Inter, but all six of the fixtures heading into the international break at the end of next month, starting with this evening’s Serie A clash with Cremonese.

The Belgian is not likely to be rushed back, and will instead be given a real recovery period so that he can return fully fit and not risk reinjury.

This should also mean that Lukaku does not participate in Nations League clashes with the likes of Wales and the Netherlands during the international break, with his focus being on returning for the Nerazzurri’s matches at the start of October fresh and at his very best.
