Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi expects the Milan derby against city rivals AC Milan over the weekend to be an emotional evening as always but feels that the team are prepared well for it.
Speaking to InterTV following this evening’s 3-1 win over Cremonese, the coach gave his thoughts ahead of the derby on Saturday and also praised his team for the manner of their victory over newly-promoted Cremonese.
Inter were desperate for three points from their clash with Cremonese, in order to bounce back from the setback of defeat against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday, and they got exactly what they came for from the San Siro.
Now, the Nerazzurri will head into the derby with some wind in their sails, although they will no full well that it is never a straightforward match no matter how much they prepare for it and what kind of form that they appear to be in.
Inzaghi gave his thoughts on the derby, stating that “Inter head into it doing well after winning a big match. We know it will be a delicate match for us and for the fans, and we’ll try to prepare for it in the best way possible.”
Of the 3-1 victory over Cremonese, he said that “We had a good performance, playing with great concentration, aggression, and determination.”
“It was what I wanted from the team and the guys,” he went on. “We had two and a half days to prepare for a match against an opponent who aren’t easy to come up against by any means.”
“We did well to take the lead and then double our advantage, and then we controlled the match well,” he continued.
Of the squad rotation compared to the team that faced Lazio at the Olimpico, Inzaghi said that “All matches are a choice for coaches, today I made for or five changes compared to the team in Rome, we have a lot of matches played close together and so they will all be like that.”
And of the team having to suffer a bit in the second half against Cremonese, the coach said that “Against Cremonese, a team who can play good football, matches are very taxing.”
“The guys used up a lot of energy,” he continued, “at the start of the second half we tried to manage the ball in possession but that’s never easy against a team like this.”
