Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is hoping that wingback Robin Gosens stays at the club despite transfer rumours linking him with a move away before the transfer window closes.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the team’s 3-1 win over Cremonese in Serie A, the 28-year-old gave his thoughts on the rumours about Gosens and also spoke about the victory of the evening and of the Milan derby in just a few days.

Gosens has been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in recent days, with the German team ready to make the Nerazzurri an offer according to reports.

The former Atalanta wingback has only been at the Nerazzurri since January and has yet to really make his mark on the team, and a departure in the last couple of days of the transfer window would come as a major surprise.

At the suggestion that the German could be on his way, Calhanoglu expressed his surprise stating “Leave? Really? No, I hope he stays, he’s a great guy. Everyone wants to play, he’s got a lot of fire inside him and he trains hard all the time. He’s always ready, Robin is a great guy.”

The Turkish midfielder called the win against Cremonese “Important, because we want to be as high as possible in the table and we did what we had to do.”

Of the derby clash with AC Milan, he said that “It’s always a great match, they’ll be charged up but we’ll be ready for them.”

And of the return of Romelu Lukaku, he said that “Everyone has his own characteristics, we did our best last year without him. Now I hope he can come back from injury as soon as possible.”
