Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has said that he will make a decision on Alessandro Bastoni’s fitness today and he is happy with the transfer window, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during his press conference at the Suning Training Centre ahead of the Derby della Madoninna, via FCInternews, the Inter coach discussed the team news for the clash and reflected on the transfer market as a whole.

One player who is at risk of missing the game is Alessandro Bastoni due to a virus but the coach said that he will be evaluated on Friday.

“We’re missing today’s training, tomorrow morning we’ll do the muscle warm-up. Bastoni wasn’t 100% before Cremonese, his fever had risen. I preferred to leave him on the bench, he’s had an illness over the last two days; he’ll be back with the group today and I’ll have to decide.”

He was also asked about who will be partnering Lautaro Martinez in attack given the injury that Romelu Lukaku has sustained.

“The same goes for the attack, there will be three without Lukaku: I’ll have to choose Lautaro’s partner. As for the lanes I’ll have to choose, I hope Bastoni can be drafted in, we’ll have 19 players plus three goalkeepers.”

The transfer window slammed shut on Thursday evening and the coach explained that he is happy with the way it panned out given the arrival of Francesco Acerbi on the final day.

“Absolutely yes, the club worked well, managing to keep important players knowing that there was a lot at stake. I am very satisfied with the team, after two financially positive markets the team is competitive and we will prove it again this year.”

On what kind of match it will be on Saturday evening: “The duels will be very important, we all know what a derby represents. The team is coming along well, we have recovered mentally and physically. Today we will have the penultimate training session, tomorrow there will be an important match.”

When asked about Hakan Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez’s role in the last derby, he said: “We won the last derby 3-0, we know what happened on the return leg in the league.

“I have guys with great desire and personality, we face the top two from last season’s championship, with their own principles of play. The four matches of last season were all very balanced, we will have to direct the match.”

On the absence of Romelu Lukaku: “The hope is to get him back before the break, it will take time but the medical staff are working to make him available to us as soon as possible.”

When asked if this is the strongest Inter team that he has coached, he said: “That will be said by those on the pitch, as I said before we have worked well with the club keeping important players. It was an intelligent market, with a mix of young and experienced players who will help us a lot.”

On the media coverage of Inter in comparison to AC Milan: “I said it at the end of the match against Cremonese, the defeat against Lazio was mentioned in the news. It’s normal because we are Inter. I know we can improve our situation because we have great players, the more we play the better.”

Inter announced the signing of Francesco Acerbi from Lazio on deadline day. Simone Inzaghi focused on the experience that he brings.

“We know him, he is a player with a lot of experience and who has already worked with me. He’s an important player, a national team player, he’ll be of great help to us.

“He can play centre-back and as a captain, he can be as important as Ranocchia was last year, making many appearances. Ranocchia has been invaluable for our trophies.”

On the importance of beating Cremonese: “It was an important match, beyond the derby, because we came from three days where there was too much talk about the defeat in Rome. I wanted the reaction that came, we played a serious game against an opponent who collected less than they deserved.”

There was a chance that Robin Gosens could have joined Bayer Leverkusen on deadline day but Simone Inzaghi says he knew nothing about it.

“I knew nothing [about Lverkusen], the player is 100% focused on Inter. After six months of inactivity he is working with desire and determination, right now I prefer to bring him on from the bench.

“On that side I can choose him, Darmian and Dimarco. There are many games, the minutes will increase for everyone.”

On AC Milan’s counter-attacks: “We analyse these things from time to time, I think the difference in matches like this is made by motivation and attitudes. We’re the same as last year, we probably need to improve our condition. When you concede goals, I wouldn’t just talk about the defenders.”

On AC Milan’s title celebrations: “Everyone does what they like with the celebrations, I personally remember the nights of the two trophies and the embrace of our fans on May 22. The fans applauded us for the season we had, then we know that tomorrow is important”.

On who has strengthened the most this summer: “The teams have all strengthened, but we have seen how difficult it is to win the various matches that are perhaps considered easy. It is normal that there are 6-7 teams fighting for the Scudetto, clearly in the end only one will win.”
