Former Inter striker Sandro Mazzola has said that AC Milan are a step lower than Inter this season as they go into the derby, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with serieanews.com, the Inter legend discussed the upcoming Derby della Madonnina which will take place at San Siro on Saturday evening and see Simone Inzaghi try and pull out a four-point lead over the Rossoneri.

He explained that he actually thinks that Juventus will be the real enemies for Inter this season when it comes to the Scudetto fight rather than AC Milan, even though they won the Scudetto last season and have had a positive transfer window.

“In my opinion Juventus will be Inter’s real adversary, there is no escaping them. They have always had a winning mentality, they have it in them. They are used to top championships, they put it in their heads and they don’t give up. Inter must be good at getting certain ideas out of their heads.”

He then added that he did not mind seeing the tricolore on the chest of the Rossoneri kit and that they are a step below the Nerazzurri.

“I didn’t find it bad at all. They are the reigning champions, even if this year they are perhaps a step below Inter.”

His final comments were on Romelu Lukaku who is injured for the game: “I really like the way he has come back and the way he is moving. Then let’s not forget that Lukaku is Lukaku: when he’s there it’s another story.”
