Former Serie A referee Luca Marelli has said that there is a debate to be had on Theo Hernandez’s lack of a second yellow card in the match between Inter and AC Milan, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst in the DAZN studios after the 3-2 victory for the Rossoneri against Inter, via FCInter1908, Luca Marelli did confirm that Theo Hernandez could have been sent off for a second bookable offence.

Both Theo Hernandez and Denzel Dumfries were shown a yellow card in the first 15 minutes of the game and that meant that both had to keep their behaviour in check throughout.

The AC Milan player then took things a step too far in the second half as he dragged the Dutchman down to stop him from launching an attack for Inter.

The Nerazzurri were desperate to see a card but Daniele Chiffi chose to just award a free kick.

“It is a moment that can legitimately open a discussion on Chiffi’s decision. Theo Hernandez passed no longer dealing with the ball but with Dumfries.

“Legitimate that there can be arguments because in the event of a whistle there would have been an automatic caution for potentially dangerous action as Dumfries would have had no one left on the wing. Var is cut out as it can only intervene for red cards,” Marelli said.
