Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana is not yet set to make his first appearance for the team in Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, but his debut is not far away.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who report that the 26-year-old should be given the opportunity to start in one of the team’s upcoming matches.
Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic has remained the first choice in goal as had been anticipated based on coach Simone Inzaghi’s statements in preseason, and the Slovenian has started every match so far this season.
However, Onana was not brought in just to be a backup to the captain, and there have been some calls for the Cameroonian to give a chance to prove himself soon given that Handanovic’s form has not been at its best this season.
The Slovenian is still set to start as usual when Inter host Bayern in their Champions League group stage opener, but Inzaghi will put his trust in Onana not long after.
