Inter captain Samir Handanovic’s spot in the starting eleven if no longer untouchable, and his long-term replacement Andre Onana is already ready to challenge him.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who note that if Handanovic cannot find his form soon, he could be displaced by the Cameroonian who joined from Ajax in the summer.

Handanovic has not exactly been responsible for any outright errors in goal over the course of the first five matches of the season, but the sense remains that he has not been close to his best.

The 37-year-old has not proved to be able to make the kinds of saves that had bailed the team out in the past on a regular basis, and decisive action could be taken soon.

The standards at the Nerazzurri have not been high enough in the opening stages of the season, and now the suggestion is beginning to be made that it could be time for the captain to sit on the bench, with Onana ready to try and prove that he can give the team something extra.
