Inter do not want to take any risks with the fitness of Romelu Lukaku by rushing the striker back from injury prematurely, and are targeting a return against Roma at the start of next month.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 29-year-old is currently working on his recovery in Belgium and is not likely to be rushed back to action before the international break.

Lukaku has now been out for two matches for the Nerazzurri, Serie A clashes with Cremonese and AC Milan, and he could yet miss a few more.

It is not yet clear whether the 29-year-old will play for the Belgian national team in the Nations League fixtures during the international break, but he is currently being assessed by national team medical staff and could instead work in Milan over the break.

At the moment, the Serie A clash with the Giallorossi on October 1 is the target for Lukaku’s return, but at any rate he will not be rushed back too soon before he is fully ready.
